Budget Updates, Summer Happenings, and a Big Celebration

Happy end of the school year teens and families!

At the PORT teen center, we are very excited to report out about the happenings of recent.

Our Budget: As many of you know, the PORT teen center was facing imminent closure due to a $20K budget shorftall.  We are proud to say that our community has worked diligently and successfully to close this gap.  We could not have done it without the support of many people and groups.  LL Bean has given us a committment for an additional $10K in funding on top of their other support.  The Town of Freeport counsel voted to increase our funding by $5K.  Finally, last night, the citizens of Freeport, Pownal, and Durham voted to approve the RSU5 school budget which includes $5K in support for the PORT teen center.  The school board support was added by a citizens motion at the budget meeting on May 22nd.  Thanks to the citizens who attended and helped give us a majority vote for this motion.

Thank you to all the teens, town departments, and adults who attended meetings, spoke out in favor of the teen center, and voted to approve financial support for the PORT.

Summer Happenings!  The PORT partners with RSU5 Recreation and Community Education to provide  a full summer of teen trips for teens entering grades 6-12.  Please view the Teen Treks section of our current brochure at http://www.rsu5-rce.org/ .

100 candles for LL Bean:  Happy 100th birthday, LL Bean.  As part of the LL Bean 100th Anniversay Celebration, the PORT will be selling sandwich wraps during the festivities on Saturday, July 7th.  Thank you to our food sponsor, the Corsican Restaurant.  We need volunteers for the event.  Call Evan at 207-865-6171 if you can help.
